NL HISTORY
New Life was originally founded in 1954 as New Life Boys Ranch by Mr. Walter Haman Sr., a member of the United States Secret Service assigned to President Roosevelt as a bodyguard.
During his career he traveled extensively throughout the world. He developed a burden for young people and felt that if he simply could share the Christian message with youth who were experiencing problems, he could change their lives. Thus the name of the agency was born--"New Life".
Initially, New Life was founded as a residential program serving an all-male population. In 1976, a Day Treatment program was initiated, which brought girls and their families to New Life for day services (education and counseling).
By 1979, New Life's name was changed to New Life Youth & Family Services to identify the broadened outreach. New Life instituted a Foster Care program and a Family Special treatment program in 1981 and by 1984 the J. Curtis Weigner Occupational Skills Therapy building was constructed.
Today, New Life offers a number of intervention services designed to meet the individual needs of each young person and their family, including a semi-independent living program for males ages 16-18 years of age and a community outreach/early intervention program for local students.
